Barry's Promotion Ceremony

On May 1st Barry became a Lt. Junior Grade or LTJG. He choose to have his ceremony at the Asan WWII lookout. Commander Willis Arnold "performed" the ceremony. Willis and his family have become very great friends. Not only does a pay raise come with this but also a deployment. They don't deploy ENS which is what Barry was before but they do deploy LTJGs. Barry heads off to Japan for training on the 9th of July and then on to Afghanistan the end of August. He will be there for 210 days, so please be praying for us!

Aggie Muster in Guam!

Nothing like meeting new friends through old traditions. It was an awesome night getting to know fellow Aggies and remembering Aggies that have passed this year. We had a great time and it was nice to bring a little Aggieland to a place so far from home.

Finally Have Time to Write about My Last Day!

So the pictures are backwards to what I am about to write but if you read and then go back up it will work!

The third day was the day that Tonya and Esan had to leave. So we spent time hanging out at the pool until it was time to put them in the taxi to head out. Camille and I then took off to the Singapore Flyer. This huge Ferris wheel type "ride" that takes you up and around to give you views of Singapore. Then we headed to China Town. Camille took me to one of her favorite shop. You would think that she has bought tons of stuff there the way the owner talked but Blake doesn't have to worry she has not but I did. We had a good time and can't wait till we can see each other again.

DAY TWO

We experienced a little Zoo effect ourselves. We kinda got locked into the condo and Blake had to come home from work to rescue us. That is why he is in his work clothes.

The 2nd day in Singapore was full of wild animals. We visited the Singapore Zoo and saw all kinds of unusual animals along with the usual zoo animals as well. Right in the middle of the Zoo trip there is a "water park" that was just perfect for cooling off and taking a lunch break. We ended the day with a trip to Chilli's Bar and Grill.

Day One in Singapore

I arrived Sunday morning about 12:00am. I get my bags and it's time to find the man with my name. That makes a person feel important, I guess because you see these things in movies a lot and all the traveling I have done I always wanted my name on a card when I get off the plane. Thanks to Camille I got to experience it. Made it to the condo and Camille meets me downstairs. Get up to the condo and there is a surprise for me, Tonya. It was already a huge blessing to get to spend time with Camille, Blake, and Pierce but also with Tonya and Esan! My trip could not have gotten much better. After the screams and excitement we went to bed to get up for a day of worshiping and relaxing!

Wow! That was too much FUN! I think if someone came up to me and said you must live in a foreign country I would pick Singapore, and I've been a few places! I had such an awesome time my 3 days there! The best part of the whole trip was spending time with two of my college roommates, Camille and Tonya. It was such a blessing to see them again and still be encouraged by their lives. It was also a joy to see them with their sweet boys!

Wow! Time Flies!

I can't believe it has been almost a year since I had a post! I have been teaching kindergarten at Andersen Elementary on Andersen Air Force Base. It has been a great year so far! I have the best class ever! They are super cute and super smart which makes my job lots easier! I wish I could post a picture of them so you guys could see how cute they are! And it has been a huge blessing to have a two family income.

We are officially halfway through our tour here in Guam. So far it has been a good and interesting experience. We definitely miss our friends and families back home but so thankful for the lifetime friends we have made here! God always provides what we need and He has done that for us here in Guam.

On my Spring Break I have plans to go visit one of my college roommates, Camille in Singapore which I am totally looking forward to doing and know that I would not be able to do that if I didn't live in Guam.

Barry is doing well. He is still working on the MSU which at Navy Hospital Guam means anyone who is not in ICU or having a baby and is admitted goes. So he can get pretty busy lots of the time.

This year we have done quit a bit:
July I came home to go to Camp Bandina which was a huge blessing!
August I found out I had a job!
Sept. started my new teaching job!
October we attended the Navy Ball with our good friends, sorry no photos at this time.
November we went home for a couple of weeks, too short!
December we had a quiet Christmas at our home which was nice, did miss the turkey and dressing.
January found out we had our third miscarriage which is more frustrating then anything but we are recovering and know God has an awesome plan for our family!
Feb. we went on a "weekend trip" which on Guam means either spending thousands of dollars to fly somewhere or stay at one of the local hotels. So we stayed at one of the hotels about 5 mins. from our house. It was really nice though because it still felt like we had "gotten away." Barry was feeling a little sick but I wouldn't let him go to the house to get meds. I did get a really bad sunburn but the facial I got was super relaxing!
Now in March we celebrated my birthday with our good friends and the best neighbors ever! I still plan on going dolphin watching one of these days to finish off the celebration!

Well that's our life in a nutshell since my last posting. I'll have to get some pictures and post them soon, I know that is way more fun to see then reading my ramblings.

Cats

So I am posting these pictures for Barry. I really don't won't to known as the people who treat their cats like kids but these are some pretty cute pictures. The white and orange cat is Tacker and the black cat is Charcoal. And I always ask myself why is it the white cat finds the dark throw to lay on and the black cat sleeps on the white comforter. As you can see from the second picture Charcoal has to cover his eyes to be able to sleep, they are his super power.

Inarajan

I spent the morning with my friends at Inarajan Pools. We did lots of exploring and the kids did lots of jumping! Even the dogs enjoyed the trip. The first picture is a jelly fish! No worries we all stayed clear not to get stung. The next two pictures are of Seth and Willis jumping. Then you have Asia the want to be fish dog! And just some shots of the area, there was some fish around but mostly just beautiful water and views.

EASTER

The morning started at about 4:45. I went with my neighbor Kirby to sunrise services on base at Anderson Air Force Base. It was very nice and then we came back and I took a nice long nap before the afternoon party begin. Kirby had a huge Easter Celebration at her house. The kids hunted and eggs and played in the big jumpy. There was lots of yummy Easter food. Here are a few pictures of the day. Barry had to go to work in the morning but got off just in time to come over and eat. Hope everyone had a fun Easter.

CHILI'S IN GUAM!

We are so excited about the new opening of Chili's in Guam! Not that it is our all time favorite but it's really pretty nice to have another fixture of home arrive on Guam. Barry and I went to check it out yesterday. It has only been open since Monday so needless to say it was still super busy! I'm not to sure the hostess wasn't trying to get people to leave. On our way out it was the end of lunch and was slowly clearing out but she kept telling people it was going to be a 45 min wait. We didn't see how but of course we have not been trained so what do we know. Anyhow Barry and I didn't wait we just went and sat at the bar and got our food there. Barry had a salad that was new and I had the Cajun chicken pasta. It was so yummy!

Birthday Celebration

Well I'm in the middle of celebrating my birthday week. Some how one day just doesn't seem long enough:) It started Saturday when I had about 20 people over for a Texas Style BBQ. There is a place in town where the owners are from Texas and fix a yummy brisket and pulled pork sandwich. My friend, Kirby brought the beans and I picked up some potato salad and finished it off with some peach cobbler. We had a lot of fun! We played Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture. The winners were a couple from church Bob and Nevadi. The game was not too serious, lots of hints were being given out.
On my actual birthday Kirby and I went running around and ate at a place neither of us have been to. The Little Mermaid Tavern and Grill, it was pretty yummy!
Since Barry had to work the night of my actual birthday we went out last night to Carmen's. The best we can do on Guam to get some Mexican food. I'm don't know what else is coming up for the rest of the week but I am sure that I can find more ways to celebrate my birthday!

Also an update on Barry's work. He will be going to the MBU(mother/baby unit) to train for the month of April but will return to the MSU(multi-service unit) until he is needed in the MBU. I know he is looking forward to the break and even more forward in the next few months to be moving to the MBU.

Yeah! Neighbors

We have neighbors! Which has been a big blessing! Our house is up away from everyone else's and the CO's house was empty until after Christmas. The XO's family moved in, they have two boys 9 and 12 which means fun toys even for grown-ups. Barry got to shoot the paint ball gun the other night. I have someone to run and around with and go to the gym with when Barry doesn't want to go. Also the most exciting thing, specially for Barry, is that Richard, the 9 year old, has become our new lawn boy. I think they got tired of waiting for Barry to do it so they sent over Richard, he's excited because he got him a little business now with all the neighbors, Barry's happy because for a small fee he gets the lawn mowed and our neighbors are happy because they don't have to look at the jungle beside them!

Jeff's Pirate Cove

On the Southeast side of the island you will find Jeff's Pirates Cove. We went to check it out and found some neat things there; restaurant, museum, swimming area, volleyball courts, hammocks and history. The history goes back in 1972 two men were out hunting and came across a Japanese soldier, he had been hiding out in the jungle since WWII. His name was Yokoi, apparently he would come out and listen to the music at the Cove. You'll have to google his name and read the whole story. They have a look out point where you can see the bay on the North end of the island. Not that you can see it in these pictures but on a clear day you can see the next island over.

On one of Barry's day off we went to see all the "sites" on Anderson. The first picture is of a B-52 that was left from the Vietnam War, it has been through a couple of typhoons. The part you are seeing is the back of the plane were the tail gunner sat.

A Hike to the Beach

Here on our base we have a beach reserve called Haputo Reserve. It is a hike down to the beach, in the first picture you can see this is the view from about a third of the way down. Once you get to the beach it is pretty nice as you can see. We did some playing in the water and snorkeling. On the hike back up I counted the steps that had not been covered up and it was 152 steps. That's not counting the in between steps. It was a nice day but Barry says we will not be going back because he got eaten up by mosquitoes, you didn't hear me complain. We decided to stick to beaches that you can drive right up to.

Christmas in the States

On Christmas Eve we had lots of fun from making cookies for Santa to singing Christmas carols. When we were little we opened our presents on Christmas Eve and we were not allowed to open them until after dark. Our parents decided to help pass the time they would make us sing carols in front of the tree. The kids did not enjoy having to do this. So we now make the kids, my nephews and niece, for pay back for our pain. Only thing is they really like it.

On the 20th of December I surprised my Mom for Christmas. My Dad and I had kept this a secret for about a month and a half. I got to spend lots of time with my family and made a trip down to Boerne to visit. I was sad to leave on the 5th but ready to get back home to Barry.

One day we come home and I see what looked like to be a long palm branch in our drive. The closer we got I realized that it was a lizard. It was about a foot and a half long.

So Thanksgiving over and we busted out the Christmas music and decorations. I had Barry busy decorating our tree. It smells so nice and fresh.

We spent our first Thanksgiving in Guam with our new friends from church. We had lots of food and fellowship. I made my Great Aunt Lou's famous Carmel pie so I have to put some pictures of my first pie. It was pretty good! One of the ladies, Gail works for a couple and when they go out of town she watches their home. It is nicknamed the "mansion", it sets on the cliff and you can see out into the bay from the kitchen window. Kim and Clarie are two other girls who joined us and another couple Bob and Nevadi. We had a 24 lb turkey and it was yummy!

Baptism

Last Sunday we had a baptism at church. Everyone was very joyfull, it had been sometime since they had one here on Guam. Michael was baptized in the ocean since it would take too long to fill up the baptismal. His family moved here from San Antonio.

Two Lovers Point

Barry had off today so we decided to go to Two Lovers Point. The story goes that there was a Chamorran(native from Guam) girl who fell in love with a Chomorran boy. During this time the Spanish were here and the girl's dad planned for here to marry a Spanish Soldier. Of course she was in love with the other boy and so they met one day on the cliffs of Guam. Long story short they were chased down and so they tied their hair together and jumped to their death.

EARTHQUAKE

So yesterday Barry and I were at the movies. I was in the theater waiting for Barry as he was getting drinks. The theater begin to move back and forth. So it took me a second to realize what was going on. It was funny because you find out who in the theater were the panic-ers. One girl, in a somewhat scared voice said, "Aren't we suppost to leave." Another guy answered back, "I have good seats, I'm not leaving." I was somewhat worried about Barry because it was his first but he was just fine.

Well I finally got pictures of our home. We are really blessed with a nice big place. The house they offered us is a former CO's (commanding officer) home. They opened it up for any officer to have even and ENS which is the lowest ranking officer and what Barry is right now. It sets off from the other housing. Anyway I have pictures of the outside, our view from the backyard, and a sunset. Thanks for the comments.

Howdy or Hafa Adai! We have made it to Guam with all of our goods! We have moved into our house and pretty much settled in. We are awaiting our car, been told that it would be here on Wednesday but we will have to wait and see. We miss all our friends and family and hope this is a way for us to keep everyone up to date!
